Our client, located in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, is a leading fabricator specializing in the manufacturing of steel oil rig components and kinetic tools used in upstream oil and gas drilling operations. With over 35 years of experience, they are renowned for their expertise in producing specialized components such as welded steel oil rigs, drilling spare parts, skid units, and pressure control equipment.

Role Summary:
As a CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines to produce precision components and parts used in oil and gas drilling operations. You will set up and program CNC machines, perform machining operations, and ensure that finished products meet quality and dimensional specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and grinders, to perform machining operations on metal components and parts.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining requirements and program CNC machines accordingly.
  • Load and unload raw materials and workpieces into CNC machines, and secure them in place using clamps, fixtures, or other holding devices.
  • Set cutting speeds, feed rates, and tool offsets, and adjust machine settings as needed to ensure optimal performance and quality of machined parts.
  • Monitor machining operations and inspect machined parts using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn or damaged parts, to ensure smooth operation and prevent downtime.
  • Collaborate with engineers, programmers, and production teams to optimize machining processes, improve efficiency, and resolve quality issues.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), following safe work practices, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist, preferably in a manufacturing environment, with experience in the oil and gas industry being a plus.
  • Proficiency in operating CNC machines, including lathes, mills, grinders, and other machining equipment.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming languages, such as G-code and M-code, and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and metrology tools, such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality, with the ability to produce precision components according to specifications.
  • Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude, with the ability to troubleshoot machine malfunctions and perform routine maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively with team members and other departments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to follow instructions, communicate effectively, and work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to machining operations.
