Role Summary:
As a Legal Advisor, you will be responsible for providing legal advice, guidance, and support to the company on various legal matters, including contracts, agreements, regulations, and compliance. You will review, draft, and negotiate legal documents, analyze legal issues and risks, and provide recommendations to mitigate risks and ensure legal compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and support to management and various departments on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, agreements, regulations, and compliance issues.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents, including sales contracts, vendor agreements, leases, and employment contracts, to ensure compliance with legal requirements and protect the company’s interests.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to assess legal risks, interpret laws and regulations, and provide guidance and recommendations to management and stakeholders on legal issues and implications.
  • Monitor and track changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards that may affect the company’s operations, and advise management on compliance requirements and strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure legal compliance and promote ethical behavior and best practices across the organization.
  • Handle legal disputes, claims, and litigation matters, and work with external legal counsel to represent the company’s interests in legal proceedings and negotiations, and negotiate settlements or resolutions when appropriate.
  • Provide legal support and guidance on corporate governance matters, including board meetings, corporate filings, and compliance with corporate governance requirements and best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including executives, managers, and employees, as well as external stakeholders, including government agencies, regulatory bodies, and legal counsel, to address legal issues and achieve business objectives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law from a reputable university; professional qualification (e.g., BL) is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Legal Advisor, Corporate Counsel, or in a similar role, preferably in a corporate environment or law firm.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian laws, regulations, and legal principles, particularly in areas such as contract law, commercial law, employment law, and corporate law.
  • Excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to review, draft, and negotiate contracts and legal documents effectively and accurately.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex legal issues, identify risks and opportunities, and provide practical solutions and recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts and advice clearly and effectively to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • High ethical standards and integrity, with a commitment to upholding legal and ethical standards and promoting a culture of compliance and integrity within the organization.
