Role Summary:
As a Medical Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately and efficiently processing medical claims and invoices, ensuring timely reimbursement from insurance companies and other payers. You will play a crucial role in maximizing revenue and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Review patient medical records and documentation to accurately assign diagnostic and procedure codes for billing purposes.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims and invoices to third-party payers, including private insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, investigating discrepancies and resolving billing issues as needed.
- Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers to address billing inquiries and resolve payment disputes.
- Maintain accurate records of billing activities, payments received, and outstanding balances.
- Stay updated on changes to insurance regulations and coding guidelines to ensure compliance with billing requirements.
- Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, including physicians and administrative staff, to optimize revenue cycle management processes.
Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Medical Billing, Health Information Management, or related field.
- Proven experience working as a Medical Billing Specialist in a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding systems (ICD-10, CPT), and insurance billing practices.
- Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and coding.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
