Role Summary:
As an Urban Planner at our client’s company, you will be responsible for developing and implementing urban planning strategies, policies, and programs to guide the sustainable development and growth of urban areas. You will collaborate with internal teams, government agencies, and community stakeholders to create innovative solutions that address the unique challenges and opportunities of urban development.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research, data analysis, and site assessments to understand local market conditions, demographic trends, and land use patterns, and identify opportunities for urban development and revitalization.
  • Develop comprehensive urban planning strategies, policies, and master plans that align with the company’s objectives and vision for sustainable development, and incorporate principles of smart growth, transit-oriented development, and environmental conservation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, government agencies, and community stakeholders to facilitate the planning and development process, and ensure that projects comply with zoning regulations, land use policies, and environmental standards.
  • Prepare and present reports, presentations, and recommendations to senior management, government officials, and community stakeholders to communicate urban planning proposals, solicit feedback, and gain support for proposed initiatives.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, designers, and other professionals to integrate urban design principles, transportation planning, and infrastructure development into project plans, and ensure that projects are designed to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of urban planning initiatives, track progress against goals and objectives, and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation to optimize the effectiveness of urban planning efforts.
  • Stay abreast of changes in urban planning trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, and participate in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in urban planning and design.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography, Environmental Studies, or related field; Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., AICP, RIBA, RICS) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in urban planning, land use planning, or urban design, preferably in Nigeria or the West African region.
  • Strong understanding of urban planning principles, practices, and techniques, including land use planning, zoning regulations, transportation planning, and environmental sustainability.
  • Proficiency in GIS software, urban planning tools, and design software (e.g., ArcGIS, AutoCAD, SketchUp) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and develop creative solutions to urban planning challenges.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences and engage stakeholders in collaborative decision-making processes.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
