About Our Client:
Our client, based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, is a leading fabricator specializing in the manufacturing of steel oil rig components and kinetic tools used in upstream oil and gas drilling operations. With over 35 years of experience, they are known for their expertise in producing specialized components such as welded steel oil rigs, drilling spare parts, skid units, and pressure control equipment.

Role Summary:
As a Welder, you will be responsible for fabricating and assembling steel components used in oil rig construction and drilling operations. You will utilize various welding techniques to join metal parts together according to specifications, ensuring structural integrity and quality standards are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine welding requirements and procedures.
  • Set up welding equipment and tools, including gas welding and cutting equipment, arc welders, and oxy-acetylene torches.
  • Perform welding operations using various techniques, including shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), to join metal components together.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up to meet quality and dimensional specifications.
  • Monitor welding processes and equipment to ensure proper settings, temperatures, and weld quality, making adjustments as needed to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Inspect welded joints and structures to verify conformance to specifications and quality standards, and perform corrective actions as required.
  • Maintain welding equipment and tools in good working condition, performing routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning as needed to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including wearing protective equipment, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and following safe work practices to prevent accidents and injuries.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Welder in a manufacturing or construction environment, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
  • Proficiency in various welding techniques, including shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with welding equipment and tools, including gas welding and cutting equipment, arc welders, and oxy-acetylene torches.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality, with the ability to produce high-quality welds and fabrications according to specifications.
  • Good physical stamina and manual dexterity, with the ability to perform repetitive tasks and work in various positions and environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with team members and communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
